This technology is particularly useful on slick surfaces; for example, if you’re losing control of your vehicle while you’re driving in the snow, ESC takes over. It’s estimated that ESC reduces the likelihood of roll-over and run-off-the-road accidents by 50%.
Blind spots can be extremely dangerous and are responsible for countless collisions each year; however, thanks to bling spot warning (BSW), you can avoid bling spot-related collisions. With this technology, radars are used to detect the presence of vehicles in your blind spot; when vehicles are detected, you receive a visual or audio alert – or both – to let you know that switching lanes or merging aren’t safe.
With automatic emergency braking (AEB), radars are used to determine the distance between your car and the car in front of you. If the radars detect that there’s a vehicle in front of you and you haven’t pressed the brakes with enough time to prevent a collision, AEB will automatically apply the brakes for you.
When you’re driving across an intersection or backing out of a parking space, this technology will let you know if another car is coming toward you from the side. The manner in which this technology sends alerts and reacts to dangers varies from system to system; for example, some systems can only detect vehicles that are behind the car, while others can detect vehicles that are both behind and next to the car. Additionally, some systems only send out notifications, while other systems will automatically brake the car.
