Road Trippin’: There’s Still Time!

morguefileSummer’s not over yet, even though kids are heading back to school and stores have pretty much stopped selling bathing suits and instead have opted to sell fall clothing. No, there is still time for a quick road trip while the weather’s warm. If you’re not sure where to go, check out these suggestions.

Mount Rushmore

This iconic tourist spot is a day’s drive from Omaha, so plan on making this more than just a day trip. Depending on when you go (August is one of the busiest months for this attraction), it’s a good idea to make arrangements beforehand to stay in a hotel or cabin.

Kansas City

If you want a fun trip that can be done in one day, yet still feel like you’re “away from home,” Kansas City, MO is a great option. Only a few hours away by car, this city boasts shopping, entertainment, and intriguing attractions that make it a popular location for a quick getaway.

Known as a foodie city and highly regarded for its art scene, Chicago is a good option if you don’t mind a long drive (around 7 hours or so, depending on traffic). Attend a Cubs game, catch a concert, or enjoy some of the end-of-summer festivals going on around town. There is no shortage of events in Chicago.

Keep it close

Maybe a long road trip doesn’t appeal to you, but you want to get out of Omaha for a last-minute trip. You don’t have to go far to feel like you’re “away.” Try Nebraska City, Lincoln, or even Mahoney State Park. Get out now while the weather is still pleasant.
