A Direct Repair Program (DRP) is a list set up by insurance companies as a way to enhance customer service.
Bruce Hansen, President of Great Plains Auto Body, says that shops have to apply to be a part of the DRP program and there are certain qualifications that have to be met. Once a shop is accepted, they are a placed on an insurance company’s referral list.
“And if you have a mishap with your car, you call your insurance company. They will ask you if you have a place you’d like to take your car to get it fixed. If you don’t, then they pull out the DRP list and say, ‘here’s a list of our approved shops,” says Bruce.
He says if you go to any of these shops, you will get a lifetime warranty on the repairs. It’s nice because then you can just take your car in for repairs without having to work through an insurance adjuster.
Bruce feels having a Lifetime Warranty is a good deal in a mobile society where we are moving a lot. He says if you get your car fixed in Omaha and then move to Des Moines and have issues in the future, your insurance company will send you to a shop on the DRP list there.
Your car will be repaired and any difference in the cost would go back to the shop in Omaha to pay the shop in Des Moines. Bruce says the DRP offers peace of mind for the customer.
“The body shop acts as the insurance adjuster. We run the estimate and repair the car with not waiting. The faster the turnaround time on repairs, the happier the customer,” explains Bruce.
Most shops have at least one or two insurance companies that refer them for the DRP, but Great Plains Auto Body is on at least a dozen lists.
Bruce says rankings are based on customer service and accurate and timely repairs. He says all of the data is put into a certain formula and if you excel, you are put at the top of the list.
