There’s a Season for Car Decorating

Posted on

As they say “for everything, there is a season.” Summer seems to be the season for decorating cars. Weddings are the obvious reason, but think of the countless sporting events, graduations, parades, and going away parties.

Wedding website TheKnot.com offers some tips to follow when decorating a car.

  • Don’t mess with a rented car: At risk of paying a hefty cleaning fee, either clear the decorations with the rental company before, or just avoid this.
  • Don’t mess with the paint job: Spray paint is an obvious no-no. So is anything with sugar, such as whipped cream, and electrical tape (or any kind of tape that will take up paint).
  • Don’t mess with fire: Tin cans can spark on the ground which may be dangerous and maybe even illegal.
  • Don’t mess with the tags: Some creative types actually attach signs to cars, but covering the license plates could result a traffic ticket.

There are several varieties of paint made especially for writing on windows, which generally are a safe area to decorate (just not the windshield, blocking the driver’s view). Streamers, plastic bottles, bar soap, shaving cream, and Scotch tape are all fair game. Party supply stores may also sell decorations specifically for cars, especially wedding getaway cars.
